James Burnett, Forest Manager
James works as a Forest Manager based in the Midlands Office of the North and Central England team. With expertise in lowland forestry and contract management, he oversees a portfolio of woodland estates and work sites where he balances the interests of multiple stakeholders and environmental criteria.
His career began as an arboricultural contractor, where he later went on to run his own tree surgery business. He gained valuable operational skills that have shaped his ability to plan and manage a range of forestry operations, while balancing the interests of landowners, contractors, and the public.
Aiming to deepen his professional knowledge, James returned to education as a mature student. In 2017, he earned a FdSc in Arboriculture and Urban Forestry from Harper Adams University, followed by a BSc Hons in Forestry from the National School of Forestry, University of Cumbria.
After joining Tilhill Forestry, James gained experience managing high-risk projects and NEC contracts in a commercial landscaping setting. His expertise has led him to a role in the North and Central England team, where he now manages lowland forestry and woodland estates, applying his extensive operational knowledge while working closely with landowners and clients to ensure that varied interests are met.
As he continues to build his portfolio, James is also focused on pursuing Chartered Forester status. His passion for forestry and project management is driving his commitment to creating sustainable and productive landscapes, with high-quality outcomes for both his clients and the environment.
