March Good Call Award was won by Faith White, Assistant Forest Manager
While she was undertaking a regular site visit she spoke to a chainsaw operator on site and asked to see their personal first aid kit. When it was produced it was inadequate. Faith stopped the chainsaw operator until such time a suitable personal first aid kit was provided.
HSE Guidance for personal first aid kits in tree work is
‘It should contain at least one or more haemostatic dressings, a tourniquet, a pair of plastic gloves and a Resusciade (or similar device).’
Tilhill also require a large or trauma dressing to be included in the kit.
Congratulations Faith and thank you for your vigilance and action. A recent incident on a site involving cuts to the back of a chainsaw operators legs demonstrates why having suitable emergency equipment is so important.
